The Milk River Community Business Association is a registered non-profit society incorporated in Alberta in 2003. It originally began as the Milk River Businessmen’s Association in approximately 1985 with John Tkachenko as it’s first President. Meetings were held monthly in the morning with breakfast at Tom and Suzie’s (Kipps). Meetings have also been held at lunch in the United Church, rotated through the other restaurants in Milk River, and now are held at the Town Hall Council Chambers most months. Over the years there have been several Presidents including Greg Smith, Bob Bogle, David Swanson, Ken Brown, and currently Jason Lynn. Barb Hoytos has been the Secretary/Treasurer since 1986.
Our main focus is improving the business climate of our area, but due to our continuing Visitor Information Center contract we have in the last decade been able to sponsor many projects which have improved not only the businesses in Milk River but the greater community as a whole. These include but are not limited to :
– Tuesday sponsorship of the handibus in Milk River so anyone can get a ride within Milk River for free
– Business Frontage Revitalization Grants in conjunction with the Town of Milk River, and Chinook Community Futures
– Free Public Skating at the Warner Ice Arena
– The powder coated benches all around the downtown
– Benches and TV’s at the Milk River Hospital
– Yearly Scholarships to deserving students at Erle Rivers High School
– The Electronic Signage along the highway
